Car Hire
Renting a car is a convenient way to explore Praia and other parts of Santiago Island. Several car rental companies operate in the city and at Nelson Mandela International Airport. If you do not have a Cape Verdean driver’s licence, we recommend checking with your rental company in advance to confirm if your national licence is accepted or if you’ll need an international driving permit.
Taxi and Ride-Hailing Services
Taxis are widely available in Praia and can be found near popular areas, hotels, and the airport. While there is no Uber, local taxi services are reliable. It’s best to agree on a fare before your ride, as most taxis are not metered.
Public Transport
Minibuses (known locally as aluguers) operate across the city and are a common, affordable way to travel short distances. However, they are informal and may be confusing for first-time visitors. For more structured transport, consider using taxis or car hire.
Sightseeing Transport
Several local operators offer guided city tours or full-day excursions around Santiago Island. Hop-on hop-off bus services are not yet established in Praia, but private tour options are widely available.
