The wait is over—tomorrow, Wednesday, 24th September 2025, history will be made as we open the 6th Biennial Conference of the African Studies Association of Africa (ASAA) in Praia, Cabo Verde! 🚀

🌟 Opening Ceremony Highlights

We are deeply honoured that the President of the Republic of Cabo Verde, JOSÉ Maria Neves, will officially open the conference. Joining him on stage will be:

  • Fernandina Fernandes, President of LOC/FCSHA

  • Toussaint M. Kafarhire, President of ASAA

  • José Arlindo Barreto, Rector of UNICV

To mark this moment, you’ll experience two captivating performances by CULT and Tradison di Tera. 🎶✨

Immediately following the opening, we begin with two powerful keynote addresses:

  • Carlos Lopes – Navigating Turbulent Waters: Africa’s Key Dilemmas and Choices

  • H.E. Prof. Cristina Duarte – No Sovereignty without Scholarship: Making African Knowledge Central to Policy

We will also celebrate the official launch of the ASAA Pan-African Doctoral Fellowship Program (PAFP), generously supported by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

🌍 Intercultural Circuits on the Island of Santiago

Alongside the academic program, we are delighted to offer Intercultural Circuits on the days before and after the conference (September 23 & 27, 2025). These tours provide an opportunity to experience Cabo Verde’s history, memory, and culture.
